I bought two new plants from a nursery and one from a grocery store. They all look healthy, but I keep reading quarantine advice and the timelines are all over the place. Some people say a week. Some say a month. Some say they never quarantine unless they see pests. I have a small apartment, so my quarantine area is basically a side table across the room, not a separate plant hospital. What is realistic?

Two to four weeks is my comfort zone. Many pests are easy to miss at first, especially eggs or tiny larvae. I inspect on arrival, then again every few days.

In a small apartment, distance still helps. Put them away from your main plants, avoid leaf contact, and do not share watering trays or tools without cleaning them.

Never quarantining works until it does not. It is less about perfection and more about reducing the chance that one bad purchase becomes a shelf-wide problem.

I do arrival photos, day 7 inspection, day 14 inspection, then decide. If anything looks suspicious, the clock starts over.

I shower new plants and wipe leaves before quarantine. It does not solve everything, but it removes dust and makes inspection easier.

My quarantine area is a folding chair by the laundry door. It is not glamorous, but it has saved my main shelf twice.
