When do you fertilize after repotting?

I repotted several plants this weekend: pothos, rubber plant, snake plant, and a philodendron. The new mix has regular potting soil, bark, and perlite. No slow-release fertilizer that I know of. I keep seeing different advice. Some people fertilize right away because the plant is growing. Some say wait a month because the roots are stressed. I do not want to burn new roots or starve everything. What is your routine after repotting?

I wait 3 to 4 weeks after a normal repot, longer if I had to remove a lot of roots. Fresh mix usually has enough to carry the plant briefly, and damaged roots do not need extra salts right away.

If it was just slipping a healthy root ball into a slightly bigger pot, weak fertilizer sooner is fine. If you washed roots, cut rot, or changed the whole medium, wait.

Half-strength is your friend. People burn plants trying to make fertilizer act like a growth button.

I track the repot date and first feed date in my notes. Otherwise every plant becomes "I think I did that recently."

Do not fertilize a snake plant because you feel guilty. It can sit there doing nothing for a while and be perfectly okay.

If your mix has worm castings, that counts as food. It is gentle, but it is still part of the equation.
